Orlecombe first appears in the lay subsidy rolls of 1333. It probably means 'alder valley' (gover et al).

The present farmer of Higher Woodland says that he removed the stone from what was reputed to be the barn several years ago. A copy of the 1802 deed of sale includes a messuage which would appear to be the original farmstead. The farmer at Waye Farm states that the remains of a building mainly of cob was removed in recent years. Other details: Sketch plan.
