A range of buildings are depicted within Plot 504 on the 1839 Kingston tithe map and recorded as 'Court & Buildings' on the accompanying apportionment.

Ordnance Survey, 1880-1899, First Edition Ordnance 25 inch map (Cartographic). SDV336179.

The layout of the complex is partly altered and enlarged on the First Edition 25 inch Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s, when the site is labelled as 'Cling Corn Mill'.

Ordnance Survey, 1906, 1967, Untitled Source, 131NW (Cartographic). SDV170722.

'Cling Corn Mill' shown on 1906 6" OS map. Marked as 'Clyng Mill (disused)' on 1967 6" OS map.

Minchinton, W. + Perkins, J., 1971, Tidemills of Devon and Cornwall, 35 (Monograph). SDV114474.

Clyng Mill, Kingston, on the Erme estuary, is the possible site of a tidemill.

Devon County Council, 1974, Survey of Watermills in Devon: Gazetteer (Report - Survey). SDV83967.

19th century gristmill. Cast Iron overshot water wheel, 12ft diameter.

Griffith, F. M., 1983, Untitled Source (Site Visit). SDV170725.

Site overlooked from Oldaport. The mill itself has been turned into a modern looking house. Presumably the tidemill suggested by Minchinton and Perkins would be situated at cSX6284897. No traces of this could be seen from the hill, but the pond etc is clear on the 1967 6" OS map. However, a possible millpond and dam, presumable freshwater, were visible at SX63014908, further upstream.

Pim, R., 1993, Water Power in the South Hams, 12 (Article in Serial). SDV141019.

Bodman, M., 1998, Water-Powered Sites in Devon, 12 (Report - non-specific). SDV305931.

Directory entries to Cling or Clyng Mill for 1850, 1857 and 1878. The waterwheel is modern, 18ft diameter by 3ft wide with an iron shaft and linked to a Fordson gearbox via a pit wheel brought from the ruinous Spriddlescombe Mill, Modbury. Tentering gear for one pair of stones remains. The high-level millpond was once served by two leats, but one is now blocked off. Other details: Draft Report.
