Full description
Montague, L. A. D., 1940 - 1941, Notes on Old Crediton (Article in Serial). SDV337762.
Supposed collegiate hostel site in Church Street, opposite the west door of the church. During 20th century demolition, the plastered front wall of a 15th century building was found, part of a timber-framed building. Removed.

A collegiate hostel was said by Montague (1940-1) to have stood in Church Street although his source for this is not clear. A large house is shown on Norden's plan. The present cottages in this part of Church Street appear to be 19th century, apart from a large 18th century house that is set back from the road. This may occupy the site of the house on Norden's plan and Montague's conclusion that this building was part of the college may be correct.
