The earliest reference to a fulling mill in devon was to one at dunkeswell in 1238. It was probably associated with the local abbey. The abbey mill continued working until 1926 (phillips + wilson).

Described in 1806 as consisting of a farmhouse, barton and water grist mill (bodman).
