Referred to as 'conveniently situated Grist and Flour Mills called Lemonford Mills' in an advert in the Exeter Flying Post in 1843. According to an article in The Miller in March 1884 the mill was destroyed by fire due to the 'fender's being blown aside in a storm which allowed water onto the wheel. The friction caused by the rapid turning of the machinery ignited the woodwork. The tenant Mr. W. Dawe was away at the time.
