Lowe, M. C., 1992, Toll houses of the Exeter Turnpike Trust, 92 (Article in Serial). SDV40109.
A small, single-storey, two-roomed red brick building. It was built in 1852-3 for £100, using materials of the house at the Three Horse Shoes. It was sold to Sir R. H. Buller in 1884.
Child, P., 1999, Toll House, Station Road, Exwick (Correspondence). SDV351834.
The toll house was probably built around 1874, when the original bridge over the Exe was constructed. It is a red brick building with a steep slate roof and prominent stone copings and kneelers, giving it a vaguely Dutch look. It lies within the Exwick conservation area, and contributes significantly to the enclosed character of this part, linking the church and school visually.
