Full description
Falcon, T. A., 1905, Dartmoor: A Note on Graves, 460 (Article in Serial). SDV255372.
A cairn is situated at Cater's Beam, some 20 yards beyond stone no 917 which according to Falcon may be the real end of the Stall Moor stone row.
Grinsell, L. V., 1978, Dartmoor Barrows, 154 (Article in Serial). SDV273224.
(30/06/1976). Approximately SX 637688 Grinsell saw but did not measure a small mound on the hill slope SE of Cater's Beam.
It is possibly the cairn recorded by Falcon (1905) in line with the stone row to the south (see SX 66 NW 20 and it may extend the row from the present terminal cairn, SX 66 NW102).
Ordnance Survey Archaeology Division, 1979, SX66NW54 (Ordnance Survey Archaeology Division Card). SDV221197.
(04/05/1979) SX63--69-- The alleged cairn and the supposed extension of the stone row could not be identified during field investigation.
Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England, 1985, Aerial Photograph Project (Dartmoor) - Dartmoor Pre-NMP (Cartographic). SDV319854.
Not visible on RAF 1946/7 photos.
Royal Commission for the Historical Monuments of England, 1993-1998, Dartmoor Royal Forest Project, H. Riley (Report - Survey). SDV346608.
(10/11/1994) There is no evidence for a cairn in this area. The remains of peat cutting are visible over much of the area N of Green Hill and Grinsell may have seen a mound connected with this.
