The present vicarage is on the site of the Vicars House which was part of the Collegiate Church of Ottery St Mary founded in the 14th century and which provided accommodation for eight choral vicars, the parish priest and the priest attached to the Lady Chapel. The vicarage, which is known as the Vicars’ rather than Vicar’s House, is a long, narrow building extending about 17m back from the close and is about 8m wide. The northern part, now detached, was rebuilt in Victorian ecclesiastical style in 1875. The main part of the house is rendered externally but there are some brick courses visible lower down. It has large 18th/19th century sash windows. The plan reflects that of a communal hall and it is possible, therefore, that its thick outer walls contain medieval fabric.

Centre said to be the oldest. It has a large bay with sash windows. In the kitchen was an old stone fireplace part of an earlier building. The rear is roughcast and colourwashed. The father of the poet Coleridge was Vicar of Ottery and Master of the Kings School, but the poet was born in the school-house, east of the Vicarage, now pulled down. In prominent position near St Mary's Church.

A long rectangular building to the south of the church.
