Visited 24/06/1983. A number of spoilheaps, craters and mounds visible in the plantation south-west of the present quarry. Trees growing on the spoil heaps, which presumably represent earlier quarrying activity, perhaps for clay.

The 2 areas of dumping indicative of earlier quarrying activity (sites 9 and 29) will be affected by the extension to the existing pit. There is no evidence to suggest that these deposits relate to pre-emparkment quarrying but their significance cannot fully be explored at present. Other details: Site 9.
