Alcock, n. W. /devon life/(c.1970-5)/stiniel. Chagford. The first house at stiniel was probably built in 12c, during the medieval colonisation of waste land. This first house does not survive identifiably, but the hamlet expanded c.1500, from which period survives stenhall cottage (see subsheet 4) (alcock).
