Full description
Laithwaite, M., 1973, Houses in Seaton and neighbourhood (Un-published). SDV366950.
Site visit 11th August 1973. This appeared to be a two-storeyed, three room and cross passage house perhaps dating to the late 16th century, the hall heated by an axial stack backing onto the cross passage. Evidence of diagonal cut stops on the stud and panel screens suggest a 16th rather than 17th century date. However, the fact that the first floor stud partitions are not aligned with the jointed cruck trusses in the roof may indicate that the cottage was originally a single storeyed medieval house within which a first floor was subsequently inserted. Futher investigation though, particularly to ascertain if there is any smoke-blackening in the roof, is needed to prove this theory.

Jasmine Cottage, 32 Fore Street. Cottage set back from street front. Circa 16th century, remodelled circa 18th century. Plastered stone rubble. New tile roof with gabled ends. Two storeys. Three window range. Three-light casements with glazing bars. Ground floor left hand sash and tripartite sash to centre. 19th century panelled door. Rebuilt brick chimney stacks.
Interior: Three jointed arch trusses. Plank and muntin screens, one with Tudor arched doorway. Chamfered ceiling beams with truncated pyramid stops. Date listed: 14th April 1983.
