Full description

Department of Environment, 1983, Newton Abbot, 32 (List of Blds of Arch or Historic Interest). SDV298253.

No 11, Torquay Road. Mid 19th century Ll-shaped villa. Two storeys pebble-dashed. Hipped slate roof. Three sashes with glazing bars intact. Band between floors. Three light canted bay. Doorcase approached through19th century conservatory. This is the same type as Devon Square and included as part of that group.

11 Torquay Road. House. Mid 19th century. 20th century roughcast, wide eaves to 20th century hipped slate roof with external moulded stacks to the two sides. Double-depth plan with projecting left-hand range. Two storeys. EXTERIOR: 3-window range. Continuous eaves cornice; continuous moulded sill band to the first floor which has 6/6-pane sash windows except over the door which is 4/4-panes. The ground floor of the projecting left-hand range has a late19th century canted bay with a swept metal roof, modillion cornice, moulded pilasters to the angles and full-height plate-glass windows. The 4-panel front door set in the angle of the projection is enclosed by a 20th century conservatory. The returns and rear have horizontal glazing bars to 2/2-pane sash windows. INTERIOR: not inspected. Included for group value. Date listed: 22nd March 1983.
