Department of Environment, 1983, Newton Abbot, 38 (List of Blds of Arch or Historic Interest). SDV298253.

No 11 Wolborough Street. Mid 19th century facade, probably to older building. Two storeys stuccoed. Slate roof. Two double sashes. Central elliptical arched doorway with keystone and 6 panelled door. Shopfront to left-hand side. The rear elevation has a plastered gable and a large external chimneystack in central portion.

11 Wolborough Street. Inn, now a shop and art gallery. 17th century or earlier, altered mid 19th century. Painted stucco probably over a timber frame, slate roof with large external lateral stack to the gabled rear wing. 2-unit through-passage plan with central rear wing and long 20th century two-storey rear right wing. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys; 2-window range. Late 19th century paired plate-glass sash windows with horns to the first floor, 4-pane plate-glass shop front to left of ground floor, single-pane plate-glass window to the right. Central semi-elliptical arch (possibly a narrow carriageway) over very wide 19th century door with 2 rows of 3 panels. INTERIOR: to the rear right of the former through passage is a painted stone corbel supporting a chamfered axial beam. The first floor has a 17th century planked screen with ribbed moulding and chamfered arrises to the projecting planks on both sides. HISTORY: once known as The Bear Inn. Date listed: 22nd March 1983.
