Full description
Department of Environment, 1983, Newton Abbot, 15 (List of Blds of Arch or Historic Interest). SDV298253.
No 52, east street. Early 19th century. Two storeys roughcast. Slate roof. Bracket cornice. Two sashes with glazing bars intact and one blank. Ground floor has one sash and one 3 light canted bay. Doorcase with rectangular fanlight and 6 panelled door, the 2 central panels cut away and glazed. Left side through passageway with door having rectangular fanlight with glazing bars.

52 East Street. House. Early/mid 19th century. Painted roughcast, 20th century slate roof with bracketed eaves and rendered stacks to the front slope of right gable end and rear left. Double-depth plan. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys; 3-window range. First floor 6/6-pane sash windows with some crown glass flank a blind central window. To the left of ground floor is a passageway fronted by a plank door with diagonally crossed glazing bars to a tall overlight, leading to a house at rear. Steps up to a slightly right-of-centre 6-panel door, glazed to centre, with 3-pane overlight and narrow pilasters. To right is a late 19th century shallow canted bay (possibly replacing a former shop window) with 2/2-pane sash window to front and a flat roof. A cast-iron gutter extends over the door and replaces a former cornice. Between the door and passageway is a 6/6-pane sash window. INTERIOR: not inspected. Date listed: 22nd March 1983.
