Full description

Ordnance Survey, 1880-1899, First Edition Ordnance 25 inch map (Cartographic). SDV336179.

The existence of a probable Prehistoric enclosure is indicated by field boundaries on Ordnance Survey 1880, and 1906 maps. Circular, diameter approximately 40 metres, with western quadrant now removed. Site lies 150 meters south of Barnecourt.

Possibly prehistoric enclosure verified from air.

Two hut circles are visible in the west (see SX78SE/72/1 - PRN 26490) but the enclosure is not verified on 1946 Royal Air Force photos.


Gerrard, S., 2004, List of Sites Remaining to be Considered for Designation on Dartmoor (Un-published). SDV345444.

This enclosure was considered for designation as a Scheduled Ancient Monument during the Monument Protection Programme. The programme ended before the entire list of sites was successfully scheduled so this is included on a local list of Nationally Important Sites.
