Name:4 West Street, Asburton

Summary

Early or mid-19th century house with shop; probably a remodelling of a house of 17th century or earlier. Rendered front (probably timber-framed), lined to imitate masonry. Slated roof. Mid-19th century shop front to left of ground storey: display window divided by enriched iron columns, doorway with flanking pilasters, entablature overall. In rear wall of shop, rising from the floor, is a very large, irregular pointed stone arch; it probably relates to the River Ashburn, which appears to run under the house.
