Ashburton - East Street (North side) No.81 Ashburton House (right-hand section only) (Formerly Listed as: EAST STREET (North side) Nos.79-83, 83A).
House, now sub-divided into two houses and office. Probably mid or late 18th century, remodelled early or mid 19th century. Solid rendered walls.
Slated roof, half-hipped to left. Two rendered chimneys on ridge. Three storeys. Four windows wide, the left-hand window set apart from the rest. Left-hand section one window wide with raised quoins (these probably a later addition). Ground storey has doorway to left with pilasters, entablature and panelled reveals; late 20th century bow window to right. Upper storey windows have moulded architraves and sashes with margin-panes. Right-hand section three windows wide. Centre doorway with flanking pilaster-strips; cornice on consoles; 6-panelled door with panelled reveals, the bottom panels flush. Canted bay window with top cornice at either side. Upper storey windows have moulded architraves; in front of second storey windows a continuous balcony with low patterned iron railing. Plain sashes in ground and second storeys; 2-paned sashes in third storey. Bracketed eaves-cornice across whole building.
