Full description

Department of Environment, 1972, Dartmouth, 5 (List of Blds of Arch or Historic Interest). SDV155627.

No 1, Bayard's Cove. Early 17th century with alterations, 2 storey and attic, stucco colourwashed cottage with frontage set back. Tile-hung cock loft. Tile roof. Gable end north. Flush frame sash windows now without glazing bars. Entrance on rear splayed corner with massive ovolo-moulded door frame with carved stops.2-light sash window, 1st floor, east and central entrance door and open pediment on shaped brackets.

Small house. Early/mid 17th century, with some 19th and 20th century modernisation. Plastered walls, probably stone rubble but parts may be timber-framed; right end stack with brick chimneyshaft and old pots; tile roof. Plan: Small one-room plan. Exterior: 3 storeys; 2-window ground-floor range. Roughly central front doorway contains part-glazed door under 19th century timber pedimented hood on shaped console brackets. All windows are 20th century horned sashes without glazing bars, the third-floor one in a large tile-hung half dormer with hipped roof. Plain eaves to parallel gable-ended roof. Curving rear right corner includes a first-floor doorway onto rising Bayards Hill and it has a 17th century solid doorframe with moulded surround. Interior: Not inspected but likely to be of interest.
