Full description

Department of Environment, 15/06/1978, Exmouth, 4 (List of Blds of Arch or Historic Interest). SDV131898.

Nos 7, 8 and area railings, The Beacon. Late 19th century facades. A pair of stuccoed houses.3 storeys and basement, 2 windows, the north west window of each house a bay, generally with unbarred sashes, top floor of Mo 7 has a modern bay. Late 19th century doorcases, No 7 pedimented over round arched door with fanlight, No 8 segmental arched hood on elaborately moulded consoles. Areas have iron railings, those of No 7 of earlier 19th century date, those of No 8, cast iron and later.

A two-phase house, late 18th century in origin with circa late 1860s alterations. The original house was two storeys and basement only, and was one build with No 9, adjoining at the right (south-east). The dimensions of the original build are evident from examination of the rear wall, where there is no joint between the 18th century hand-made brickwork of Nos 8 and 9. See report for full details.
