Site on one of the proposed alternative routes for the Barnstaple bypass.


Unknown, 1838, Fremington Parish (Cartographic). SDV71013.

Field numbers 1304 and 1305 are recorded as North Rack Close and Rack Close respectively. The names are indicative of a tenter ground where woollen cloth was stretched and dried after fulling. They also suggest, therefore, that there was once a fulling mill in the vicinity.
