Vis=10/10/1984 (griffiths) originally two adjacent farmsteads of east and west ford, the latter still a functioning farm. Part of the site of east ford lies under a massive railway embankment, but the rest (the site of two buildings and enclosure) is visible as earthworks in the field at this ngr. These consist of two platforms divided by an e-w hollow way, with further disturbance where the buildings stood. Of the barn, a little to the north, no sign remains. Nearby areas of ridge and furrow (see ss72nw/62, 63 + 64) (worksheet).
Gover, J. E. B. + Mawer, A. + Stenton, F. M., 1931, The Place-Names of Devon: Part One (Monograph). SDV1312.
Ford is first documented in 1270 (mawer et al).
