Late 18th or early 19th century with alterations and additions, three storey, brick limewashed front to River Exe with five flush frames sash windows with glazing bars. No 60 street front, stucco, lined and painted, and with gable. In important position next to church yard of St. Peter's.

Two houses, one subdivided, including boundary wall. Probably 17th century or earlier in origin with late 18th century rebuilding. Painted and stuccoed Flemish bond brick on stone rubble base; slate roof; axial stack.
Plan: adjacent to the churchyard with garden fronts overlooking the river and set back from the adjacent houses in St Peter Street. The houses are built on sloping ground with basements at ground-floor level on the west side.
Exterior: three storeys and basement. Two three-window garden fronts, visible from the opposite bank of the river. Boxed eaves; sash windows also mostly boxed. Basements have half-glazed garden doors and three-light windows. Ground-floor sashes are two over two-pane with segmental arched heads to the left (north) and two 12-pane hornless timber sashes to No.56. The left-hand window is a large late 19th century timber oriel with diagonal boarding below the sill and sash windows with small panes in the upper sashes and plate glass panes below. Five first floor 12-pane timber sashes. Five similar second-floor sashes with one reglazed as four-pane. The rear elevation of No.56, to St Peter Street has a good pilastered doorcase with an old Sun Insurance sign and a narrow gabled wing. The rear elevation of the north house is gabled with deep verges on brackets, an archway through at basement level and 12-pane and plate glass sashes. Steps up to entrance which is a 20th century door with a small-pane overlight.
Interior: No.56 partially seen. This has a probably 1930s stair rising across the east wall. Photographs in the possession of the owner show what appears to be a mullioned window on the south end wall, which was revealed when the render was stripped off, suggesting a 17th century origin.
Subsidiary Features: the north house has a rendered brick boundary wall on the east and north sides, adjacent to the churchyard of St Peter. The wall is ramped between piers with sunk panels and is included in the listing. Note: No.56 was added to the list on 20/06/1975.
