Full description

Department of Environment, 1972, Tiverton, 18 (List of Blds of Arch or Historic Interest). SDV52494.

Mid 19th century, buff or pinkish brick, two storey, sash windows with glazing bars, nine windows at first floor. No 35, Doric doorcase with pilasters, nos 37, 39 and 41, plain entrances with flat heads.

Terrace of four houses. Erected in the 1860s by Caroline Brewin, John Heathcote's daughter, married to Heathcote's business partner, Ambrose Brewin. Flemish bond yellow brick with brick ridge stacks to natural slate roofs.
Exterior: double-depth plan; the north end is recessed and rounded, linked with Nos 4-18 (even) St Paul's Street. Two storeys with attic; nine-window range. Gauged brick flat arches over four-panelled doors, with Doric doorcase to No.35 on left (north) and alleyway to right, and 8 over 8-pane sashes. Interior not inspected. An important element in the group of artisan and middle-class housing around St Paul's Church.
