Two adjoining shops with accommodation above dating to 1840s. Mass wall construction, the rear shows local red/purple rubble with brick shafts. Front has line blocked stucco. Natural slate roof.
Plan: each shop is double-depth, one room wide and has end stacks. Left return has entrance to 21A and stair behind leading to accommodation above.
Exterior: three storeys. 2:1-bay front. No.21 has a good 19th century shop front three panes plus one return plate glass shop window with canted door to the right. Each mullion is cast-iron or wooden. Internally there are two substantial cast-iron supports. Deep fascia and projecting cornice. Recessed doorway with overlight and two panelled door with glazed top panel. Pilaster at ground-floor level separating shops. First floor has 12-pane outer hornless sashes and a blocked window in the centre; three first floor similar sashes. No.19 has a late 20th century shop front but retains its original cornice. The entrance to No.21A on left return has a tented porch canopy on curved brackets. The wall construction here suggests that the rear of the building may have been extended or rebuilt at some stage. Interior not inspected, but may retain features of interest.
