Summary
Medieval or later eluvial streamworking situated within Stoney Girt, a dry combe above the right bank of the River Avon. An archaeological field survey in 1996 recorded the streamworks which covered an area of one hectare, as comprising long, parallel linear spoil heaps orientated east to west and enclosed by a tinners cliff reaching a maximum height of 2 metres. There appeared to be no contemporary structures or reservoirs associated with these workings.

(31/01/1996) Centred SX65446643. Approximately 1.0ha of eluvial streamworking remains lie in Stoney Girt, a dry combe above the right bank of the River Avon. The remains comprise long, parallel linear spoil heaps orientated E to W across the contours enclosed by a tinners cliff reaching a maximum height of 2.0m. There appear to be no contemporary structures or reservoirs associated with these workings.

Alluvial streamwork for tin extraction at Stony Girt on the river avon where a drystone revetment faces downslope suggesting that this tinwork was exploited in an unusual downstream direction.
