Apart from the Victorian formality, the layout of much of the village is of scattered informal groups with no well-established building lines. Some dwellings have direct street frontage, others are set well back behind walls, and still others with their axis at right angles to the main carriageway; the best example being Victoria Place, a particularly attractive terraced group of four cottages, mainly thatched.
