Cookbury Wick, alias Week Damerel, was Wicha in Domesday. It was held by Robert de Albemarle. Before the conquest it was held by a free woman Ulueron. In 1241 William Avenel was in possession in Testa de Nevil.
Gover, J. E. B. + Mawer, A. + Stenton, F. M., 1931, The Place-Names of Devon: Part One, 139 (Monograph). SDV1312.
Cookbury Wick is first mentioned in the Domesday book as 'Wicha'. It occurs again in the feet of fines as 'Wika' in 1198 and as 'Cokeburywike' in 1420 in the inquisitiones post mortem (Record Commission). It was probably the dairy farm of Cookbury.
