East and West Leigh are recorded as Lega in Domesday Book, 1086 and as Legh in 1242.

'William holds Leigh from Iudhael. Osmer held it before 1066. It paid tax for 1/2 hid. Land for 2 ploughs. In lordship 1 plough; 2 slave; 1 virgate. 3 villagers and 3 small holders with 1 plough and 1 virgate. Pasture, 10 acres; pasture, 10 acres; woodland 1 acre. 8 sheep. Value formerly and now 15s.'
