Full description

Gover, J. E. B. + Mawer, A. + Stenton, F. M., 1931, The Place-Names of Devon: Part One, 587 (Monograph). SDV1312.

Dotton Farm is Dodinton in the Feet of Fines in 1201. It is mentioned afterwards in various other documents. This is almost certainly the Domesday manor of Otrit ie by the Otter which was held tempore regis Edwardi by one Dodo. Hence it became 'Dodo's' or 'Dode's farm'. Other details: Part II.

An 'appraisal' in 1869/70 indicated that the farm buildings were in a very bad condition. A new Home and Barton Farm were built some two years later at the crossroad above the old farm. A mains water supply was connected to the house in 1914, and electricity in 1943.
