Full description

South West Heritage Trust, 1838-1848, Digitised Tithe Maps and Transcribed Apportionments (Cartographic). SDV359954.

Field number 2209 listed on the mid 19th century Tithe Map Apportionment as 'house and garden'. Shown on the Tithe Map as two rectangular buildings in a lozenge shaped enclosure.

Dartmeet Cottage shown on 19th century map as a group of four buildings on the east side of the East Dart River.

Dartmeet Cottage shown on early 20th century map as a U shaped group of three buildings with a small rectangular building to the south-east and another building with two internal divisions to the south.

Visited on 8th June 1979. Badger's Holt was originally a hunting lodge which was mentioned in the domesday book. At some time it had been given to the daughter of streuben, lord of spitchwick manor as a wedding present. In the 1930s the property had been run as a restaurant by the present owner's father. The clapper bridge had been partly dismantled by a farmer and water from floods had added to its dismemberment.
