Name: | Tealta, Northam |
---|
Summary
Tealta is so spelt in 1662 in the feet of fines and is to be associated with the family of richard de talte of the lay subsidy rolls of 1333. This is clearly allied to the old english tealt meaning unsteady. In this instance it has been suggested that tealt is a derivative of the verb to tilt thereby meaning to slope (gover et al).

This area known as Tealta was occupied by a very old rundown cottage which was used by tramps to shelter in. The cottage was pulled down quite suddenly and a new house built right away. The whole area stands out very clearly on the skyline.
