Summary
The orchard of the farm and Inn known as rising Sun Inn is now a council estate bearing the name Rising Sun. The remains of ridges, probably made for tree planting or improved drainage from the post-medieval period to 20th century, were visible on aerial photographs of the 1940s as low and narrow parallel earthwork banks on the upper east facing slopes of the Corry Brook combe, to the south of Dalwood village.

The remains of ridges, probably made for tree planting or improved drainage from the post-medieval period to 20th century, were visible on aerial photographs of 1947 as low and narrow parallel earthwork banks on the upper east facing slopes of the Corry Brook combe, to the south of Dalwood village.
The banks extended over a small area of approximately 0.2 hectares and were spaced up to approximately 5 metres apart. They aligned obliquely across the contours presumably to aid drainage. They fell within an area depicted as an orchard on the Tithe Map for Stockland and the Ordnance Survey First Edition 25 inch map and are therefore interpreted as ridges made for fruit tree planting and improved orchard drainage.
By 1947 the orchard had been cleared of trees revealing the underlying earthwork banks and construction of housing on the eastern side of the plot had begun. By 1982 the orchard had been entirely redeveloped for housing and the banks probably levelled.
