Full description

Chapman, G. M., 1983, Dalwood, A Short History of an East Devon Village, 32 (Monograph). SDV351908.

Eastons, near Bramblescombe Farm was built about 1640 by an Exeter merchant who gave his name to it. Eastons is a good example of a longhouse modified to provide a comfortable modern dwelling. Its walls are of rubble stone which stand on flat stone slabs, as do the big cruck beams to which the timbers of the walls and roof are tied. The roof is steep pitched as in most old houses. An interesting detail is the red hairs in the original mortar which shows that Red Devons were the type of cattle kept in Dalwood at that time.
