Full description

Robinson, R., Ugborough (Worksheet). SDV160162.

An arched stone bridge built to carry the Brunel Railway in 1848; single track broad gauge, over the old Exeter to Plymouth road. The road appears to have been re-aligned for the purpose, and is now a dangerous s-bend. The road and rail-track are not at right-angles to one another, so that between the abutments the stone coursing in the arch is curved in a rather interesting manner. The bridge was widened for the 1892 railway by a brick addition on the east side.
