Public footpath known as 'The Runs' through meadows between the Ivybridge-Ermington road and the River Erme. It runs for nearly 750 metres very nearly in a straight line, whereas the road describes several sharp curves before both reaching the river at Keaton Bridge. The Ivybridge end of the path is still well defined but towards the river the original track has become disused although its line between old hedges can still be seen. In 1829, the inhabitants of Ivybridge "gained a trial respecting the right of a public walk in The Runs below Ivybridge". The history of the path has not been discovered. It is interesting to conjecture if this were part of an early track leading from the tin workings on the River Erme above Harford to the seaway at the Erme estuary. The earthwork on Henlake at SX634570 which would overlook the route above Ivybridge could then take on a protective purpose, similar to the earthwork at Turtley, which overlooks an ancient roadway.
