Site visit 11th July 2007. Milestone located on the old Barnstaple to Braunton road, opposite South Park. The stone stands at the end of a wall below Prospect Cottage, in front of a gate. Set up just prior to the closure of the Turnpike Trust in 1879 and inscribed '5/BARUM', from the Medieval Latin for Barnstaple.
It was found to be in fair condition, but at a slight angle. Black paint residues were found in the lettering.
