Cow house approximately 30 metres north-east of Shilstone farmhouse. Probably 18th century of plastered granite stone rubble with a corrugated iron roof, originally thatch. The building faces south-west and is unusually wide. The ground floor is double depth and divided by an axial rubble wall with series of cow stalls either side. Roughly central through passage. The hayloft is uninterrupted and full width. The central doorway each side has a hayloft loading hatch directly above and there are a series of narrow slit windows either side, some later enlarged to windows. Occasional vent to hayloft and some small apertures low down are probably drains. Roof is half-hipped to right and to left it butts adjoining Shilstone Cottages. Interior has plain carpentry detail including a seven bay roof of large A-frame trusses each employing two sets of pegged lap-jointed collars.
