Atlas mine (see sx77ne/27). Processing area. Tin mined from the shafts at lewthorne were conveyed by tramway to middlecot wood, where there were a 60 feet stamps wheel, two calciners and a stack beside a small stream (hamilton jenkin).

Os maps of 1886 and 1906 show works, which had expanded between those two dates. A "chimney" is labelled on 1886 map, and an aqueduct on 1906 25" map. See worksheet for diagram (griffiths).

The tramway referred to by hamilton jenkin is more likely the one leading e from the deep adit to the stamps and dump (crf:sx77ne/24/2). Furthermore, 20' seems a more likely diam for the waterwheel. The calciners and stack are still there however (richardson).
