Full description
Department of Environment, 1978, Totnes, 72 (List of Blds of Arch or Historic Interest). SDV342722.
Number 50 High Street, (south side). The Quaker House. Early 19th century refronting of earlier building. Formerly used as quaker meeting room. 3 storeys. 1 window. Hipped Welsh slate roof. Slate-hung, timber-framed front with plain eaves band. Architraved sash windows to first and second floors with glazing bars. Ground floor loggia over pavement carried by wooden Doric columns. Front retains moulded stone corbel to party wall of earlier building. Good early 19th century shopfront with semi-elliptical bowed shop window with small panes. Shop doorway with rectangular fanlight with margin lights. Half glazed double shop door. Interior altered, but retains chamfered oak ceiling beams to ground floor (citing M. Laithwaite).
