An approximately triangular shaped earthwork depression, circa 50m across and partially a pond, is visible on images derived from lidar data captured in 2016. It corresponds with an oval shaped enclosure within a plot recorded as 'Pit Close' in the Tithe Survey. The depression corresponds with an 'Old Marl Pit' depicted on the First Edition OS map and historic maps thereafter. In the mid to late 20th century part of the depression is visible as an oval shaped pond.
The depression is interpreted as a post-medieval to 19th century extractive pit, that ceased extraction by the end of the 19th century and eventually established partially as a pond.
