A circular earthwork depression circa 35m across is visible on images derived from lidar data captured in 2016. It is situated on the boundary between two plots on the Tithe Map, one of which is recorded as 'Cleys' and indicative of the presence of clay. It corresponds approximately with an 'Old Marl Pit' depicted on the First Edition OS map and on subsequent historic and modern maps. Is it visible as a semi-circular cropmark on aerial photographs dating to the 1940s. The depression is interpreted as a marl pit of post-medieval to 19th century origin, that ceased extraction by the end of the 19th century.
