Ordnance Survey, 1880-1899, First Edition Ordnance 25 inch map (Cartographic). SDV336179.

A guide post is marked as 'G.P.' on the First Edition Ordnance Survey 25 inch map.

Jenkinson, T., 2004 - 2011, A382 Newton Abbot to Whiddon Down (Report - Survey). SDV338864.

Site visit 24th September 2003, notes updated in 2006. A tall granite marker set on tarmac, located opposite St John's Cottages, where the road forks to Ashburton and Newton Abbot. 1.67 metres high with a facetted top portion. Its legend, 'To Newton, To Ashburton', is now worn and difficult to read. The stone which dates from circa 1822/6 is occasionally hit by vehicles. It was repositioned in January 2004.

Direction post about 50 metres north of St. John's Church, at junction of Ashburton Road and Newton Road. Probably early 19th century. Granite. Square section monolith, the top splayed on each side with inscription carved on the splay. On one side TO NEWTON, on the other side TO ASHBURTON, each inscription being accompanied by a direction arrow. Date listed: 3rd July 1986.
