Full description
Department of Environment, 1987, Tavistock Hamlets, 94 (List of Blds of Arch or Historic Interest). SDV221830.
Milestone. Early 19th century. Square plan pier on rough-cut base, about 1 1/2m high, with incised lettering: Beer Ferris 2 miles, Tavistock 4 miles, Gawton half mile, with the lettering for Gawton set in a semicircle.

Milestone about 1.5 miles north of Bere Alston, at a T junction with minor road to Gawton. Inscribed Beer/Ferris/2/Miles/Tavi/stock/4/Miles/Gawton Half Mile. The word 'Gawton' is carved in an arc above 'half mile'. There is an OS benchmark on the base. Dated to circa 1832.
