Full description

Department of Environment, 1988, Dolton, 43 (List of Blds of Arch or Historic Interest). SDV598.

Merrymeet, Church Street.
House. Early - mid C17 possibly with earlier origins probably with C18 addition. Rendered cob walls. Gable-ended thatch roof.3 gable-end projecting rendered rubble stacks with brick shafts.
Plan: L-shaped plan, the original range is probably that with 2 heated rooms and the wing projecting from the right-hand one may be a c18 addition, possibly as a kitchen.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 2-window front to main range of early C19 16-pane sashes. C20 part-glazed door to left and right, the right-hand one is behind a glass leanto porch. Wing projecting from right-hand end has late c19 4-pane sash on 1st floor and late C20 bow window below. All the 1st floor windows have gables in the thatch above with C19 decorative barge-boards and finials. C19 outbuilding projecting from end of wing.
Interior: inaccessible at time of survey but likely to contain C17 features such as fireplaces and ceiling beams and possibly good quality C19 joinery.
The roof structure may also be of interest.
