Full description
Department of Environment, 1973, Barnstaple, 35 (List of Blds of Arch or Historic Interest). SDV89941.
No 83 High Street, Barnstaple. Early c19. Three storey stucco with doric flank pilasters at 1st and 2nd floors.2nd floor has arched recess with keystone and wreath in pediment. Two 1st floor sash windows with side glazing bars and segmental heads with keys. Modern shop.

83 High Street. House, now shop. Early C19. Solid rendered front. Roof not visible from street. 3 storeys. 2-window range. Ground storey and lower part of 2nd storey wholly altered; late C20 shop front inserted. Second storey has segmental-headed windows with moulded architraves and tall keystones; 6-paned sashes. Between them and at either end, but clearly intended to drop to first-floor level originally, are Doric pilasters surmounted by a modillioned cornice. Third storey similar in character, but with round-arched windows (now blind) and no continued cills. Pilasters support a triangular pediment with 2 sprays of foliage in the centre forming an oval panel. INTERIOR not inspected.
