Summary

A hillslope enclosure, possibly a hut circle settlement of Iron Age to Roman date, is visible on aerial photographs of the 1940s and images derived lidar data, as cropmarks and earthwork banks on the north-facing slopes to the south-east of swallow cottage, Marystow parish.

Directly south-east of swallow cottage, in north-west corner of 575 foot contour, circular crop or soilmark with entrance to east and apparent second, outer circle about 100m diameter (balkwill).

A possible sub-oval enclosure is visible.

Curvilinear banks are visible as earthworks defining concentric oval enclosures.

The outer enclosure measures approximately 70 m across. The inner enclosure, which could represent a hut circle, is oval in plan and measures 20m to 25m across.
