The northern part of the depression corresponds with a semi-circular enclosure visible within a plot recorded as'Higher Redwood' on the Tithe Map. The features corresponds with a marl pit and a small woodland enclosure depicted on the First Edition OS map. A pond is depicted in the northern part of the depression. The depression is interpreted as a marl pit of post-medieval to 19th century origin, that ceased extraction by the late-19th century, after which it became a pond and woodland.
