A large earthwork depression is visible on images derived from lidar data captured in 2016. The depression is situated within a plot recorded as 'Old Court Orchard' on the Tithe Map, and corresponds with 'Old Marl Pits' depicted on the First and Second Edition OS maps. Part of the plot continues to be an orchard until the mid to late-20th ccentury. Part of the pit has become a pond by the mid 20th century, with two further ponds to the south. It is possible these ponds were created from further unmapped extractive pits.
The depression is interpreted as a marl pit of post-medieval to early 19th century origin, that ceased extraction and was established as an orchard by circa 1840.
