17th century farm building of unknown function. Stone rubble and cob ; corrugated iron roof, gabled at ends. Rectangular on plan with a door on the east side, facing the house, and a flight of stone steps leading up to a loft door on the south end. An interesting building, group value with Southwood Farmhouse and two other 17th century farm buildings in the farmyard to the west.

Full description

Department of Environment, 1988, Christow, 88 (List of Blds of Arch or Historic Interest). SDV308409.

Farm building about 15m west of Southwood Farmhouse, Foxhole Hill (off), Christow.
Farm building of unknown function. Probably 17th century. Stone rubble and cob; corrugated iron roof, gabled at ends.
Plan: rectangular on plan with a door on the east side, facing the house, and a flight of stone steps leading up to a loft door on the south end.
Exterior: lofted farm building. Doorway, approximately in centre on east side; 2-light timber mullioned window to the left. Granite steps at left end up to loft doorway. Interior: the ground floor has a chamfered stopped crossbeam. Roof: one 17th century truss with principals with curved feet, collar mortised into principals. A later roof structure has been added over the top. An interesting 17th century farm building, group value with Southwood farmhouse and two other 17th century farm buildings in the farmyard to the west.

Farm building about 15 metres west of Southwood Farmhouse GV II Farm building of unknown function. Probably C17. Stone rubble and cob ; corrugated iron roof, gabled at ends.
Plan: Rectangular on plan with a door on the east side, facing the house, and a flight of stone steps leading up to a loft door on the south end.
Exterior: Lofted farm building. Doorway, approximately in centre on east side; 2- light timber mullioned window to the left. Granite steps at left end up to loft doorway. Interior: The ground floor has a chamfered stopped crossbeam.
Roof: One C17 truss with principals with curved feet, collar mortised into principals. A later roof structure has been added over the top. An interesting C17 farm building, group value with Southwood Farmhouse (q.v.) and 2 other C17 farm buildings in the farmyard to the west.
