Summary

Farmhouse. 17th century or earlier with late 19th/early 20th century addition. Whitewashed rendered stone rubble, late 19th/early 20th century addition in brick; pantile roof, gabled at ends of main block, hipped at left end of wing. Appears to be a 17th century or earlier 3 room and through passage arrangement, lower end to the right, with a probably later rear wing at right angles to the hall giving a T plan. The wing has been remodelled and extended to the left in the late 19th/early 20th century and projects beyond the left end of the earlier block. Roof inspection might reveal medieval timbers and involve revising the dating suggested here. Group value with No. 1, Bennah Cottage.

Bennah farmhouse. Farmhouse. 17th century or earlier with late 19th/early 20th century addition. Whitewashed rendered stone rubble, late 19th/early 20th century addition in brick; pantile roof, gabled at ends of main block, hipped at left end of wing; projecting front lateral stack to main block, projecting right end stack, two stacks to rear left wing.
Plan: not entirely clear at time of survey (1987) as interior and roof not inspected but appears to be a 17th century or earlier 3 room and through passage arrangement, lower end to the right, with a probably later rear wing at right angles to the hall giving a t plan. The wing has been remodelled and extended to the left in the late 19th/early 20th century and projects beyond the left end of the earlier block.
Exterior: two storeys. Asymmetrical 4 window front with a 20th century gabled porch to the passage to right of centre, two-light timber casements with glazing bars. The left return of the main block has a first floor blocked opening and a ground floor window: at the left end and set back from the main block is the late 19th/early 20th century wing, linked to the earlier block at an oblique angle. The rear elevation of the main block has one 3-light timber mullioned window to the first floor and a two-light window below, the return of the wing has a 3-light casement with square leaded panes.
Interior: not inspected at time of survey (1987) but said to have ceiling beams, large fireplaces concealed by modern plaster and pegged roof trusses. A roof inspection might reveal medieval timbers and involve revising the dating suggested here. Group value with No. 1, Bennah Cottage.
